About

Welcome to mauricelefeu.nl

Hi, I'm Maurice Lefeu aka 'Mauce' from The Netherlands.

This site is dedicated to sharing my musical journey and the projects I've been involved in over the years.

My love for loud, distorted guitar music dates back to my teenage years. It all began at a school camp with my elementary school class. On the last night, we had the chance to pick the music we wanted to hear, and a few of my classmates chose songs by Iron Maiden and AC/DC. I had never heard anything like it before. The music was played at full volume, and I was completely blown away by the raw energy. The power of the guitars and the exciting chord progressions left me in awe. That night, I was hooked. From then on, my close friend and I embarked on a journey to explore more music in that style.

Over the next few years, my musical taste evolved into what became known as the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM), with bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Saxon. Soon after, I discovered thrash metal, and bands like Metallica from the Bay Area and Anthrax from the East Coast became some of my all-time favorites. When Queensrÿche released Operation Mindcrime, I was amazed to discover that heavy metal could be cinematic and conceptual, especially in tracks like "Suite Sister Mary." As a fan of grand, symphonic film scores, I felt like this was the perfect fusion of my two passions.

In the 1990s, death metal and grindcore emerged as extreme metal subgenres, shifting the focus away from intricate guitar solos and towards heavier, groove-driven sounds. Downtuned guitars and 7-string guitars became more popular, and while my love for classic metal remained, I found myself intrigued by the new guitar tones and the evolving sound of metal. By that time, I had started playing guitar myself, which only deepened my interest in tone and sound.

A decade later, home recording technology took off, making it possible for anyone with a PC to record and produce music. This opened up new creative possibilities, allowing for even more bombastic music to come to life. I became a fan of bands like Nightwish, Epica, and Mayan, who blended symphonic elements with metal in exciting ways.

As a guitarist, I've developed my own guitartone that blends the aggression of powerful, in-your-face tones with the melodic and cinematic elements I've always loved. We are living in an exciting time for music, as digital modelers are rapidly evolving and replacing traditional tube amps, opening the door for new sonic landscapes in rock and metal.

Being a Christian, I've always been passionate about incorporating my love for heavy music into worship. I believe that talent is a gift from God, and it should be used to honor Him. This belief led me to create the Metal Of Honor worship project in 2024.

I'm excited for the future and all the musical adventures that lie ahead. Be sure to check out my band page to see what I'm working on right now.

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy the journey!

Cheers!

As mentioned on the introduction page, this project has been a long-time aspiration of mine. All the songs are crafted or reimagined to center around powerful metal guitar riffs, combined with grand elements like symphonic orchestras, while maintaining strong melodies that make the songs easy to sing along to. The concept is to feature a guest vocalist on each track. The first song, titled "YAHWEH Will Manifest Himself," features Michael Drive (Barren Cross/Human Code). The song is not released yet, but will be soon.
